the exhibits and engage the artists to gain a better
understanding of the artistic process and the inspiration for
the unique works of art. The artistic media represented will
include paintings, sculptures, photography, glass, wood,
jewelry, collage, and ceramics with prices ranging from
$25 hand-designed earrings to $50,000 metal sculptures.  

Festival promoter Howard Alan Events produces three
highly anticipated shows a year on Las Olas Boulevard in
January, April and October. “Our festivals on Las Olas
Boulevard are among the best shows in South Florida,
popular among tourists and locals alike,” said Howard
Alan, founder of Howard Alan Events. “Art enthusiasts
return to our shows seeking out some of their favorite
artists while looking forward to exploring the work of
artists that have never exhibited in South Florida as well as
new and emerging talent.”

The artists, merchants, restaurants and hotels all benefit from
the festival, which drives additional guests and dollars to the
community. Most of the hotel rooms near Las Olas are sold
out during the three shows with “art show junkies.”

Alan advocates the importance of supporting the arts and
artists because this in turn helps the community. 

“We need to invest in each other, investing in our artists
and our community is beneficial to everyone,” Alan said. 

The 2016 Las Olas Art Fair collectors’ edition poster will
be available for purchase at the event. The painting titled
“Las Olas Art Fest” by Pendragon Miranda was selected
from dozens of submissions for this year’s poster. Miranda,
a native of El Salvador, used bold colors and a mix of
Naif and Fauvism to bring to life his interpretation of Las
Olas Boulevard.

Miranda said his poster is “about life and colors
surrounding Las Olas. I believe this is a beautiful place full
of live art. All of the world must know and live in this
magic place.”

The poster will be available for purchase onsite for $10,
look for the booth located across from the Cheesecake
Factory. Festival patrons will have the opportunity to win a
signed framed copy by registering for the giveaway; no
purchase will be necessary to participate.

The festival runs Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 9-10, from
10a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. Admission is free.

LAS OLAS ARTISTS

Here are three of the artists who will be displaying their
work at the Las Olas Art Festival on Jan. 9-10.

"I have been passionate about drawing as far back as I
remember. I saw a curious bit of evidence in my medical
records from age 2. The doctor’s comment read: ‘The
child’s favorite pastime is drawing’. There it was!

“I am a classically trained artist, born and raised in
Bulgaria. The main force behind the choice of my career
was my father, an architect, who noticed my natural talent
and encouraged me to study art since the age of 10.
Along the way, I attended the Fine Art magnet high school
in Sofia, where the contact with talented peers pushed my
skills to new levels. 

“I later attended The National Academy of Art, the most
prestigious higher education art school in Bulgaria. I would
later earn my MFA in Painting from that same Academy.

“In 2002 I decided to further my studies in the United
States. I moved to Philadelphia, Pa. and was accepted to
the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. 

“I moved to Miami to pursue an art career after completing
my studies. I am now an active professional artist and
member of the art faculty at Palm Beach State College."
