Message from the Board
lease set aside the evening of January 22 for our annual meeting at Cardinal
Gibbons High School. The meeting will last from 7-9 pm and will be held in
P the Media Center. We’ll be covering a variety of topics, including:
- The Bayview Drive traffic calming project. Karen Warfel from the City as well as a
representative from the design team will attend and provide an update on the
project status and timeline. This project runs from Commercial to Sunrise and
includes sidewalks on the west side of Bayview in CRCCE, new traffic circles and
other traffic calming measures.
- FPL Undergrounding project. Representatives of FPL will be in attendance to discuss
current plans to bury certain distribution lines within the neighborhood and the
possibility of burying more lines in the future. Board member Jason Ulbrich has been
spearheading this for the Association. Read his update in this issue.
- Minimizing cut through traffic. We have an $80,000 grant from the City to be used
toward traffic calming measures in the neighborhood. The Board is prioritizing
certain improvements and will be submitting them to the City to begin the
Tim Hernandez implementation process. Admittedly, $80,000 won’t go too far, but we are hoping to
Vice President creatively leverage funds from other sources to achieve our objective of minimizing
cut-through traffic. For example, perhaps Cardinal Gibbons could help fund a
sidewalk along NE 47th Street or a chicane on NE 28th Avenue. Or perhaps Coral
Board of Directors
Ridge Mall and Publix could help fund a roundabout or other traffic calming measure
Bruce Quailey at the NW entrance. Input from residents on where the biggest issues are is solicited,

preferably sooner rather than later to help the Board prioritize improvements.
Vicki Lynch - City and County Updates. Our City Commissioner Heather Moraitis and our
vicki.lynch@aol.com
Broward County Commissioner Lamar Fisher will also attend and provide
Judy High information on topics of relevance to CRCCE. If you have any specific topics you
judyahigh@gmail.com would like them to address, please let us know in advance.
Brian O'Connell - Election of 2020 Board Members. As mentioned in the last newsletter, we have
boconn4404@aol.com experienced some Board attrition and need to recruit some new board members. If
you are interested, please let any of our Board members know. We need people
Jason Ulbrich
jbonz25@icloud.com who can help us:
• monitor zoning and site plan proposals that impact our neighborhood (like the
Jeff Stich
jjs1717@aol.com proposed cannabis dispensary that was looking to open with over 60 fewer
parking spaces than required by code) directly adjacent to residential;
Tim Hernandez • work with FPL on plans for undergrounding more power lines in our neighborhood;
Thernandez@
newurbancommunities.com • write articles for the newsletter;
• serve as liaisons with the design team on the Bayview Drive project. There is
Leslie Donofrio nothing that will affect more people than this…most everyone in the neighborhood
donofrio@hotmail.com
drives on Bayview for one reason or another;
• Help with the landscaping of our new entry monuments;
• Help raise money for more neighborhood improvements
• Help us plan a neighborhood block party
If you are interested in serving on the board, or just volunteering for a specific
project or initiative, please call or email any of our Board members. You can make a
real difference in the quality of life in our neighborhood. The Board has
accomplished a lot over the past several years, but we could use some help.
We look forward to seeing you on January 22.
Tim Hernandez
