President’s Message
appy New Year. Hope everyone had a good holiday season. Our
neighborhood looked beautiful with all the amazing lights, decorations
Hand displays. Following is an update on various items of interest:
Traffic Calming and Safety Enhancements—Bayview Drive. Here is the latest update
provided by Rebecca Guerrero of FDOT on the Bayview Drive Traffic Calming
and Sidewalk project. Note this update covers improvements in both Coral Ridge
Country Club Estates (north of Oakland Park Boulevard) and Coral Ridge (South of
Oakland Park Boulevard):
• Sidewalks - All new sidewalks will be opened before 12/21 with exception to the
area between NE 18th Street and NE 36th Street along Northbound Bayview
Drive. The proposed sidewalk at the NE corner of NE 26th Street is impacted by
Tim Hernandez the root intrusion of an existing tree. At NE 37th Drive, drainage improvements
President
have begun, however the sidewalk is discontinued here because the new
roundabout configuration. This area between NE 18th Street and NE 36th Street
remains closed due to there being no ability to cross pedestrians safely across
OFFICERS Bayview Drive by means of a signalized crossing.
Tim Hernandez • Final lift of asphalt - The estimated placement of asphalt is the beginning of February.
President All drainage, widening and roundabout work needs to be completed during January.
Karen Polivka • Signage & striping - Post sign placement is ongoing throughout the project. All
Vice President Striping will be done 2 weeks after the asphalt is placed, estimated mid-February.
Craig Singer • Backfilling of swales, sodding - Grading and backfilling of the swale areas is

Roundabout Etiquette. With one roundabout installed and another under
construction, below are some FAQ’s provided by FDOT (also available online at
https://www.fdot.gov/agencyresources/roundabouts/faq.shtm in the event you
BOARD OF DIRECTORS
want to share with family and friends). This is lightly edited for clarity and relevance:
Michele Allen • What is the difference between a roundabout and a traffic circle? Traffic circles are
Jonathan Brody much larger than a roundabout and often have stop signs or signals within the
Renata Cammarata circular intersection. Roundabouts are smaller and vehicles have to yield before
Tim Hernandez entering. Good South Florida examples of traffic circles are the intersection of US1
Judy High and Hollywood Blvd. and the three traffic circles on Central Boulevard in Abacoa
Vicki Lynch in Jupiter. Roundabouts typically operate at relatively low speeds (<25 MPH) while
Robert Mayo traffic circles allow higher speeds (> 25 MPH). Roundabouts typically restrict
Brian O’Connell pedestrians from entering the central island while some traffic circles allow
Paige O’Mahoney pedestrians to cross to and from the central island.

Bruce Quailey • How do I drive in a single-lane roundabout? Reduce your speed to 10-15 mph as
you approach the roundabout; be aware of bicyclists and pedestrians; look left for
Craig Singer oncoming traffic (traffic moves counter-clockwise); yield to vehicles already in the
Jeff Stich
roundabout, wait for a gap and enter; do not stop in the roundabout; do not pass
other vehicles; use turn signal to exit the roundabout to the right; yield to
pedestrians crossing the exit lane; allow emergency vehicles to pass.
• How do I drive in a multi-lane roundabout? Follow signs and pavement markings
CORAL R DGE to determine the lane(s) that will serve your destination; follow all tips listed for the
COUNTRY CLUB ESTATES single-lane roundabout. Note the Bayview Drive roundabouts are single lane
