Commissioner’s Message
Neighbors,
Have you visited North Beach in District 1 lately? If not, now’s the perfect time to
rediscover this lively, welcoming neighborhood and all it has to offer.
A staycation in Fort Lauderdale offers the perfect mix of relaxation and fun, especially
when centered around the vibrant North Beach Restaurants and Shoppes on 32nd
and 33rd Street. This charming pocket of the city, located in District 1, just steps from
the ocean, brings together everything you’d want in a laid-back coastal escape:
good food, local culture, unique shopping, and year-round events that bring the
neighborhood to life. Whether you’re spending a long weekend or just indulging in
John Herbst some well-earned local downtime, the North Beach area offers a refreshing change of
District 1 Commissioner pace without ever having to leave town.
City of Fort Lauderdale
jherbst@fortlauderdale.gov The streets around NE 32nd and 33rd are always buzzing, especially during special
events. One highlight is the Fort Lauderdale Beach North Arts & Crafts Fair, which
typically rolls in during February. These streets turn into an open-air market, filled
with colorful booths from more than 100 artisans selling everything from handmade
jewelry and pottery to coastal-themed décor. Add in live music and a variety of food
vendors, and it’s easy to lose a whole afternoon exploring. Another beloved event
is “Light Up the Galt,” a holiday celebration that brings the community together with
live entertainment, a kids’ zone, and festive specials from neighborhood bars and
restaurants. It’s a local tradition that feels both cozy and exciting—exactly the kind of
experience that makes a staycation feel special.
City of Fort Lauderdale Outside of events, North Beach’s everyday offerings are just as compelling. The dining
1 E. Broward Blvd., Ste. 444 scene is a highlight, with more than a dozen restaurants serving everything from fresh
Fort Lauderdale, FL 33301 seafood and gourmet burgers to Latin American and Mediterranean cuisine. After
eating, you can stroll through the nearby boutiques and specialty shops, many of
which carry one-of-a-kind finds you won’t see in bigger malls or tourist-heavy areas.
A staycation centered around the North Beach Restaurants and Shoppes is the
perfect way to reconnect with the city and treat yourself to a mini vacation without
the stress of travel. Whether you’re discovering local art, enjoying live music,
savoring fresh coastal cuisine, or just watching the sun dip below the horizon, this
Office Contact little slice of Fort Lauderdale has everything you need to feel refreshed, inspired, and
Melissa Whiddon totally at home.
