Security Patrol Update
Security Detail
Gets Local Leader
By Vicki Lynch
A s announced in the last issue of this newsletter, CRCCE board is pursuing the
establishment of a Security Patrol – off-duty FLPD officers patrolling the CRCCE
neighborhood offering an additional layer of protection to our homes and residents.
Critical to the success of a Security Patrol is the Detail Coordinator who works with the
Association and the officers assigned to the Patrol. CRCCE is fortunate to have Lieutenant
DeAnna Greenlaw to fill that position.
Lieutenant Greenlaw was born and raised in the Wilton Manors/Fort Lauderdale area
and began her law enforcement career with the Wilton Manors Police Department after
graduating from Florida State University in 2001. In August 2005, she joined the Fort
Lauderdale Police Department. There, she served the Department in the Operations
Bureau as a road patrol officer, a Field Training Officer, an officer assigned to the
Community Policing Unit, and an officer in the Special Problems Unit.
In 2010, DeAnna became the alternate Public Information Officer for the Fort Lauderdale
Police Department, and soon after was chosen as the full-time PIO in July 2012.
DeAnna was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in May 2015, and after serving back in the
Operations Bureau, was assigned as the Training Unit Sergeant from February 2018 to July DeAnna Greenlaw
2020. The Training Unit is comprised of four full-time detectives, three administrative
assistants and a multitude of adjunct instructors, all of which are dedicated to improving the
knowledge, skills and tactics of those who serve the City of Fort Lauderdale. Additionally, she
is a member of the City of Fort Lauderdale’s Special Events Team, which organizes large-
scale private and City sponsored events (e.g. St. Patrick’s Day Celebration, Tortuga Music
Festival, Lauderdale Air Show, Fourth of July Spectacular, etc.). In July 2020, she was
reassigned back to the Office of the Chief to serve as the supervisor overseeing the Media
Relations Unit and the Public Information Officers. In September 2021, DeAnna was
promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and assigned to the agency's Patrol Division as the
Midnights Shift Commander for Police District One.
DeAnna’s husband Steve also serves the agency and was born and raised in Coral Ridge.
Steve is the Captain of Special Events and Emergency Management Unit and the agency’s
SWAT Commander. The Greenlaws previously lived in Coral Ridge Country Club Estates
off of NE 26th Avenue until their family outgrew their home. They have a combined total of
nearly forty years of law enforcement service and continue to serve the same community
they are proudly raising their family in. Collectively they bring to the table a unique
perspective, both as seasoned officers and City of Fort Lauderdale residents.
DeAnna has already met with Board member Vicki Lynch and volunteer residents Paige
O’Mahoney and Michele Allen to begin setting up the infrastructure necessary for the
successful operation of a Security Patrol in our community.
