954-401-2007c Sylvan Lake a/k/a Lake Sylvia: Mayor Fisher has spoken with State Representative
president@harborbeach.org Joseph Geller regarding the pollution issue. Plans to address pollution include working
with the City, State and engaging the EPA. Anchoring in the lake is regulated by
BOARD OF DIRECTORS Broward County, Florida Fish & Wildlife and monitored by the City of Fort Lauderdale
Ann Cadwalader Marine Patrol. To address the increasing anchorage problem, the City of Fort
Trish Bailey-Entin Lauderdale and the City of Hollywood are working in conjunction with HBPHOA.

911 Emergency Call Center Update: Broward County officials held a meeting
Jake Wurzak and amended the 2002 charter. Currently Broward Sheriff’s Office is handling all
emergency calls. There was an 80 percent vacancy gap in emergency personnel
attributable to lack of funding. October 1, 2022 the agency was given $4 million
and recently another $11 million to fill the positions. The vacancy gap has been
reduced to 11 percent. Mayor Fisher noted that callers get frustrated and often hang
up. Callers are urged not to hang up as there is an automated call back system,
which will cause delays in that if callers hang up. If a resident calls 911, the caller
needs to stay on the line as it will be answered. Callers should also consider using
the non-emergency line if not in a life threatening emergency.
The proposed commuter rail was briefly touched upon. Broward County is moving
forward with the rail service which will connect Aventura, Broward General, Fort
Lauderdale and onto Palm Beach.
South Ocean Avenue bridge replacement will commence this year in conjunction
with the City of Fort Lauderdale.
The homelessness situation unfortunately continues to increase. Ideas to assist in the
reduction of homelessness include providing cellphones to individuals with a direct
line to services; dedicated street outreach including mobile doctors and prescribers;
rapid housing; housing affordability and gap financing.
