How Long-Term Anchoring is
Damaging Lake Sylvia
By Ari Romano
Guest Contributor
estled in the heart of Harbor
Beach, Lake Sylvia has long
Nserved as a peaceful escape from
the hustle and bustle of Fort Lauderdale, beloved
by paddleboarders, boaters, and families alike.
However, in recent years, Lake Sylvia has become
overcrowded with long-term anchored boats - many of
them liveaboards or derelict vessels. Some are occupied
full-time, others sit idle and unattended for months. Together,
they’ve transformed the lake into what many residents
describe as an unregulated marina, with little regard for the
environment, privacy, or safety.
