Commissioner’s Message
City of Fort Lauderdale • District IV
New City Manager – I am very happy to say that on Tuesday, Nov. 6, the Fort
Lauderdale City Commission unanimously voted to name Chris Lagerbloom as our next
City Manager effective Jan. 1, 2019!
Thank you to Lee Feldman for his excellent service and tireless work for our city. Lee
captures Chris's experience well here: "Chris has served as our Assistant City Manager
for nearly three years and, during that time, has spearheaded a number of major
projects, including improving operations and enhancing service delivery in our
Department of Sustainable Development; advancing the massive 'Go Big, Go Fast!'
infrastructure improvement project; working closely with Parks and Recreation on a
facilities improvement bond; and leading discussions with Broward County for a
possible shared City/County downtown governmental complex."
Chris is a consummate professional, works incredibly hard, has already formed very
good relationships with our neighbors, and likes to say that one of his sayings is,
"How can we get to yes?"
Dr. Ben Sorensen Having Chris start on Jan. 1 will lead to a very smooth transition from Lee to Chris, will
Vice Mayor save taxpayers $30,000 in search firm costs, and will allow us to most efficiently
District IV Commissioner
continue the great progress the Mayor and our Commission is making. Please
congratulate Chris when you see him!
Airport Noise – During the Nov. 6 City Commission meeting, I was appointed by City
Resolution to the Broward County Aviation Department Part 150 Technical Committee -
effective immediately. This study is called a Part 150 Study because it follows the process
outlined in Title 14 of the Code of Federal Regulations Part 150 Airport Noise
Compatibility Planning. This commission action followed the Oct. 15 resignation of
Angelina Pluzhynk, who was the City's original representative on the technical committee.
Part 150 is a voluntary process that airports can undertake to address aircraft noise
concerns. The Broward County Aviation Department completed the first Part 150 Study
for FLL in 1987 and updated it in 1994. This Part 150 Study reflects the new aircraft
operational conditions resulting from the opening of Runway 10R/28L. For details, see
http://www.fllpart150.com.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Angelina for her years of dedication to the
airport noise issue as a member of the Lauderdale Isles Civic Improvement Association’s
Airport Noise Committee and for her service on the Part 150 Technical Committee.
Thanks are also extended to Ed Rebholz, our Harbour Inlet neighbor, for his continued
service on this committee. Rufus James, Manager of the City's executive airport, is
serving on the Part 150 Coordination Committee.
Las Olas Mobility Working Group – Commissioner Steven Glassman and I formed this
working group to bring representative stakeholders together to work collectively to
vision, plan, and execute a connected streetscape for the Las Olas Boulevard corridor
between South Andrews Avenue and Fort Lauderdale Beach.
During its first two meetings, the group developed a mission statement and defined the
tasks to be included in the Scope of Consultant Services for the redesign of the boulevard.
Bike Walk FTL made a presentation, and we learned about the type of short-term study
that could be performed by a national advisory panel of the Urban Land Institute.
