                SPECIAL RECOGNITION

PROTECT RIO VISTA FLPD DETAIL OFFICER

                      SAVES A LIFE NOVEMBER 29, 2018

ooking through the daily logs of the patrol officers really serves as a reminder as to why Rio Vista is well known for
being one of the safest neighborhoods in the City of Fort Lauderdale. Notably in the November 2018 log, one of
Lour detail officers saved the life of an elderly woman who was unconscious/not breathing. Take a look at the entry
        from Ofc. Mark Wright:

“ 1241 Responded for medical call of elderly female, not conscious / not breathing.

I was first on scene and began CPR / used my AED. I performed CPR until Fire Rescue
arrived several minutes later - rescue was delayed by a bridge opening. Female was
                                                                                                             ”
visiting from Norway and was transported to BHMC by FLFR; case # 18-191601.

Living in the neighborhood with the longest Fire response time in the City, this entry highlighted two things for me. First,
if we did not have a patrol officer on duty on November 29th this woman may have died. Second, we need a Fire
Station closer to us as soon as possible.
Thank so much to Officer Mark Wright for his quick response and thinking! Also, I want to thank Captain Steve Scelfo
for all his efforts in coordinating the patrol and helping to build relationships here in Rio Vista. If you are not sure of the
