with Broward County School Board members. The City
must do more to partner with our School Board to
improve our schools.

As your new City Commission engages in its first
annual Commission Prioritization Workshop on May 7
and 8, I expect this survey will help inform and guide
some of our work going forward.
FLL Airport Noise – On April 18, we held a public
meeting with other government officials to update our
neighbors on progress to reduce noise levels from
aircraft taking off and landing from Fort Lauderdale-
Hollywood International Airport (FLL). I visited the air
traffic control tower and have met with other agencies
on this issue. Knowledgeable District 4 neighbors are
working on the County’s Part 150 FLL Noise
Compatibility Planning Study (www.fllpart150.com), and
we are exploring what measures other cities have taken
to help address the problem.
Solutions for SE 17th Street – On March 26, when I
convened the 7th Meeting of the SE 17th Street
Mobility Plan Working Group, FDOT made a
presentation on its proposal to add an additional lane
onto the I-595 on-ramp from US 1. Our 8th meeting
was on April 30, and the 9th Meeting is set for May
24 from 10 AM to noon in City Hall’s 8th Floor
cafeteria. Additional recommendations are to install
wayfinding signage through the corridor, redesign the
intersection of Eisenhower Boulevard and Grand Drive,
and make changes to the development review and
mitigation process.
