LHIA President’s Message
he Lauderdale Harbors Improvement Association annual meeting took place of
March 27th at the Lauderdale Yacht Club. It was very well attended and extra
T chairs had to be brought in to accommodate the crowd.
Congratulations to Linda Brand who was
named Resident of the Year. Linda gathers
gifts and discounts from area merchants to
put into lovely welcome baskets for our new
homeowners in Lauderdale Harbors. This
past year was particularly busy for Linda.
Welcome to these new neighbors and a big
thanks to Linda and her husband Uli for
taking on this task.
Our first speaker was our District 4 Vice
Mayor (Commissioner) Ben Sorensen. He
had a mere Commissioner title on March
Barbara Magill 27th when he addressed Lauderdale
President Harbors, but at the April 2nd Commission
Lauderdale Harbors meeting he was appointed to his new
Improvement Association position. Our neighborhood congratulates
Vice Mayor Sorensen.
The Vice Mayor talked about all the things going on in District 4. He touched on his
opposition to The Wave Streetcar and better managing new development. He also
touched on the issue of security cameras, which our neighborhood had started to
address early last year. Under discussion is a new initiative with the police
department where the police will partner with neighborhoods to be the ones to access
the security camera footage if a crime happens. Lisa Burgess has once again
Team LHIA Officers volunteered to gather information and find out more about the program.
Vice-President
Ed Rebholz He also filled us in on happenings at City Hall. The new commission has terminated
the City Attorney Cynthia Everett. City Manager Lee Feldman has been put on a
Secretary probation to see how he works with the new Commission. $17 million has been
Chelsea Krebs
allocated to raise the sea walls on Cordova Road to help curb king tide flooding,
Treasurer which is discussed later in this issue by RVCA’s Mark Snead. There is also discussion
Bonnie Rogers
by the Commission to end the gun shows at War Memorial Auditorium.
Welcome Committee City of Fort Lauderdale’s new Mayor Dean Trantalis addressed our group after Vice
Chairman
Linda Brand Mayor Sorensen bid his good-byes. There is a Sunshine Law which prohibits those on
the Commission from discussing or addressing City issues with each other outside of
the Commission chambers.
