Hello Neighbors,
One of our newest board members recently said to me, “Our neighbors have no idea
how much the RVCA board does for the community. We need to do a better job of
telling them.”
To tell you the truth, I am not sure how much anyone knows about what we do. So
here are some examples of what a board member or volunteer may be working on at
any given time. It is definitely a team effort!
1. Parking congestion being caused by construction, regular workers in the
neighborhood, and residents( blocking sidewalks etc…)
2. Speeding and running stop signs. Traffic calming solutions
3. Working with the city to use the right speed humps (not the ones on 12th Street)
4. Looking into enforcing the electric scooters, electric bikes, and golf carts (see the
article in this issue by Sergeant Wright)
5. Fundraising for additional security hours and license plate readers
6. Spreading the word on how to keep up with city issues/requesting repairs
7. Watering our 400 or so young orchids
8. New landscape and neighborhood sign at the pump station on Cordova & 12th St.
9. Planning and organizing upcoming events (which takes a huge amount of time)
10. Calling in repairs and maintenance issues needed in the parks(or other places)
11. Connecting residents to patrol (members only benefit)
12. Educating residents on recycling with upcoming changes
13. Distributing information door to door
14. Posting on social media and sending informative emails to residents
15. Designing and creating themes for our major events
16. Finding sponsors and prize donors to support the events
17. Working with and organizing volunteers(we love you all)
18. Coming up with new ideas like bringing Art to the Park
19. Joining city meetings like CFLCA and reviewing various city meeting agendas
looking for things that could affect our neighborhood directly or indirectly
20. Green Your Routine, a city initiative that requires a neighborhood representative
to oversee and organize. We have a fantastic volunteer representing Rio Vista
21. Organizing our Movies in the Park
So there you have it. And that’s just a start. Every board member is a volunteer taking
time out of their otherwise busy schedule. Every volunteer is giving back to
the community.
On another topic, thank you to everyone who attended our meeting in April. It was
an energized group who attended to learn about and discuss the critical importance
of cleaning up our waterways.
To the guest speakers, Mike Lambrecht, Suzee Bailey and Jeff Maggio, thank you for
sharing your passion with our residents. Thank you to Commissioner Sorensen for
contributing to the presentation. Please see the article following in this issue
highlighting the meeting.
