LHIA President’s Message
ts back to school for the kids in Lauderdale Harbors. I hope everyone got in lots
of summer reading from the choice books in our neighborhood library. The
Ivariety changes often so keep checking back.
New Look in the Hood
Lots going on in and around Lauderdale Harbors. For all our snowbird residents,
you will notice lots of changes when you come back home. Let me start with what is
no longer there.
The old Sundance Marine on SE 16th Street. The building and metals stacks are
now gone and the land is just about cleared of debris. Construction will soon begin
on the massive Cordova Boat Club dry stack storage.
Barbara Magill
President, The Market Place at the Port along 17th Street was also bulldozed this summer,
Lauderdale Harbors making way for Convention Center expansion and new hotel.
Improvement Association The Bypass road has not been finalized but the County appears confident they can
work with the City in getting this project done.
TEAM LHIA
Officers The Hilton property is getting a small redevelopment to the current restaurant area.
The eastern side of the property will be torn down and a three-story building with a
Vice-President
Ed Rebholz roof top restaurant will be built adding more meeting room and banquet space to
Secretary the first and second levels. The hotel and parking will remain as is, with the
Chelsea Krebs exception of losing about 6-8 parking spaces.
Treasurer
Bonnie Rogers 13th Street Isle Entry Sprinklers
A new initiative by the City to better serve the neighborhoods and assist with
Welcome Committee sprucing up the entryways has finally gotten us a permanent repair to our entryway
Chairman sprinkler system. We have had problems with the irrigation at 13th Street Isle entry
Linda Brand for the past several years. Numerous attempts at repairs were unsuccessful which
resulted in poor landscape upkeep. The system was installed back in the 1990’s.
Once we can count on functioning irrigation, the board will work on creating a
beautiful landscaped entry.
Pump Station 12th Street
Again coordinating with the Hal Barnes at Neighbor support and Daniel Spencer from
Parks and Recreation, we will match the pump station wall and landscaping with our
15th Street monument wall. Our logo is on order and, thanks to Daniel and his crew,
the bushes were trimmed back and the wall stuccoed over and painted. Rio Vista
lettering remains the same but now coordinates with the blue colors of our wave and
lettering.
Medical Marijuana Dispensary at Harbor Shoppes
On August 13th, the City Design Review Committee heard a site plan presentation
for a medical marijuana dispensary at the Harbor Shoppes/Publix Shopping Center. The
store is looking to locate in the northeast corner of the shopping center where spaces are
currently unused.
