hen we first implemented the Protect Rio Vista
(PRV) program in 2008, we set the price of
Wparticipation at a simple $1/day. At that time,
your membership funded just over 11 hours of patrol time.
Since then, the cost per hour has steadily climbed to the point
that your membership is only able to fund 7.5 hours. The
increases are tied to the bargaining agreement between the
police union and the city, and we are required to accept them
in exchange for an official detail. The official detail allows the
officers to patrol in uniform and in a squad car with radio
communications directly to dispatch and the full police powers
of sworn officers.
To help make up for the increases in the past 13 years, and
to prevent us from falling so far behind in the future, the
RVCA Board approved raising the PRV membership price
from $365 to $435 effective January 1, 2022. At this level,
your membership will fund 9 hours of patrol time. The RVCA
membership will remain at $35. The board also approved
automatically raising the PRV membership by the percentage
increase in hourly rates when they take effect in the future.
