President's Message
Lake Estates Improvement Association, Inc.
Dear Neighbors,
appy New Year! Just wanted to share our joy! Our family is growing.
Gwendolyn Birdie Pelini, our granddaughter, was born to proud parents,
HLauren and Steven on January 11th and weighed 8 lbs. 2 oz. and is 21
inches long. So happy!
It was great to see so many of you at our Annual Meeting and Block Dinner Party
this year! It gave us a chance to welcome new neighbors and renew old friendships.
We thanked our Board of Directors for their dedication and leadership in all of the
accomplishments for 2019. The nominations committee presented the 2019 slate and
and the membership voted for the Board of Directors by acclamation.
Accomplishments in 2019
*The Board of Directors completed advocating for Lake Estates with the
Ferrari/Maserati Dealership and during the new construction period with the
landscaping and wall as a barrier from the commercial district to our residential
community is in. Our final negotiations included:
- a sound barrier either with glass and louvers where there is open space
Linda W. Bird, President
- make the rear of the building a solid paint color with no accent colors
Lakes Estates
- downward lighting to minimize light spillage
Improvement Association, Inc.
- noise operations of the dealership will be moved into the new building
- plant Bambusa Textilis as a hedge directly in front of the wall
- plant Montgomery Palms in front of the Bambusa tightly spaced
- plant Ligustrums in front of the Palms every 10 ft
- In addition, install a wall similar to the existing one the length of the opening, remove miscellaneous plants, remove
construction materials and add sod, and clean and repair the excavation work that was completed.
Further, for maintenance:
• Irrigation system must be fixed and maintained
• The trees and grass need to be fertilized properly and allowed to grow to maximum height
*Successfully included our Lake Estates Linear Park in the City Parks Bond Program for improvements to our landscaping
in the neighborhood.
*Worked with Code Enforcement reporting violations to keep property values high. In particular, the derelict property
located on 2811 Northeast 57th Street was cleaned by the City. They cut the hedges, removed trash debris, and
hauled away truckloads of garbage. They still need to cover the pool which is infested with mosquitoes, rats, iguanas,
and poisonous toads.
*Represented Lake Estates Improvement Association Inc at numerous City of Fort Lauderdale functions. n
2020 Annual Dues are due $25
