President's Message
The Landings Residential Association
Greetings Neighbors.
Traffic Barrier Gates Update
s you know the traffic barrier gates have been an ongoing project for some
time. We are still in the process of determining the amount of support for the
Agates. As of the current date we have received ballots from a little more than
half of the residences in The Landings. We are now attempting to contact those whom
we have not yet heard from to see how they feel. We hope to have that process
completed by early February. In the meantime I can tell you that of the votes we have
received so far approximately 75% or a little more are in favor of the gates.
Perhaps I haven’t explained well enough the reason I think the gates are a good
idea. I have called them security gates in the past partly because they will also
include security cameras. I believe that they will provide some additional security
and crime prevention. However, that is not the main reason I am in favor of the
gates. The main reason is traffic mitigation.
The reason I think the gates are a good idea is that I believe they will make our
Mike Watson, President
Landings Residential Association neighborhood more like it was intended to be when it was designed: a tranquil,
friendly neighborhood community where you could feel safe and walk or bike the
streets without worrying about speeding cars.
As most of you know, when The Landings was designed there were two hump
bridges created for construction purposes. The plans called for them to be taken
OFFICERS down after construction was completed. That never happened and I don’t think that
will ever happen. The traffic barrier gates will not make it exactly the same, but it
President will make the neighborhood a little more like it was planned to be. I believe that a
Mike Watson lot, if not most, of the pass-through traffic will stop using Bayview Drive as a pass-

through if they have to stop for two barrier gates. If there is a backup at the South
Vice President bridge, I believe the pass-through traffic will simply take 51st Street to Federal
Diane Dodich
Highway to avoid the wait. If I am right, the traffic flow should be greatly reduced
Secretary and the backups will be minimized. We will only have to pass through one gate
Dana Mullaney each time we leave because we will either be going home or leaving for a while.
Treasurer I would like everyone, including the city, to recognize that Bayview Drive from
Steve Lawrence
Commercial Boulevard to 62nd Street is significantly different from Bayview Drive
from Sunrise Boulevard to Commercial Boulevard. South of Commercial Boulevard
DIRECTORS there are high-rise apartments, businesses, a school, a church and a Yacht Club.
Jim Becker There are sidewalks and no tree-lined median in the middle of the street. There are
Kathleen Cool no stop signs. There are no speed bumps.
AnnMarie Dari Bayview drive north of 51st Street is significantly different. We have no sidewalks
Myra Freeman and we have a tree-lined median in the middle of the street. There are a number of
Kevin O'Neill stop signs as well as speed bumps. We have no high-rises or businesses or
churches or schools. All we have is single family residences. It was designed to be

a quiet residential neighborhood. I would like it to become more quiet and safe as
it was intended to be.
I also want everyone to know that the board and I are not pursuing this just
because some of us think it is a good idea. We are only going to pursue it further if
