President's Message
The Landings Residential Association
Greetings Neighbors:
Security and Safety
s you know we are in the process of attempting to improve security and
safety in our neighborhood by getting the City of Fort Lauderdale to allow us
A to install self opening security gates and cameras for our entrance areas.
We are also trying to arrange for safety mirrors to improve view and visibility at
the south bridge on Bayview Drive and also the bridge on 56th street.
You also are aware that last year we investigated the possibility of having off duty
police officers with the Fort Lauderdale Police Department provide additional patrols
in our neighborhood. Because we were not able to get enough support from our
homeowners we were not able to make those arrangements.
Because there is a possibility that we may not be able to arrange for the security
gates and in the interest of continuing to find ways to strengthen our security and
safety, at our last board meeting we had a presentation from a private security firm.
Mike Watson, President Their proposal was to provide overnight security including a marked patrol car and
Landings Residential Association a licensed security officer who has EMT training. In addition they could provide a
boat for water patrols with two security officers. They would also provide vacation
protection for those who participate which would include walking the property while
OFFICERS you are on vacation to check to be sure all doors and windows are secure and a 24
hour emergency shift at the home in the event a participating home is burglarized.
President
The cost for this service is expected to be significantly less than previously estimated
Mike Watson
for the Fort Lauderdale police officers. Preliminary estimates are that the cost for the
wizardwats@msn.com
service would range from $20 per household a month to $45 dollars per month per
Vice President household. The final cost will be determined based upon the number of days of
coverage we have and whether we have the marine patrol or not.
Diane Dodich
The board agreed at our last meeting to try to determine if there is enough support
Secretary from homeowners to enter into a contract for these services. We will be sending out
Dana Mullaney an e-mail to all homeowners in the future to determine if we can move forward with it.
Treasurer Mosquito Bite Protection in Florida
Steve Lawrence
We are in the rainy season and that means mosquitoes are more prevalent. Because
some mosquitoes can bear diseases we all need to be careful. Not all mosquitoes
DIRECTORS are the same. Different mosquitoes spread different diseases and bite at different
times of the day. Some mosquito species bite during the day, such as those
mosquitoes that can spread chikungunya, dengue and Zika viruses. Other species
Kathleen Cool
bite most often at dusk or dawn, including those that can transmit West Nile virus.
AnnMarie Dari
Using insect repellant with DEET is a good way to protect yourself and your children.
Myra Freeman
Priti Maheswari Mosquitoes can live indoors and will bite at any time, day or night.

Use Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)-registered insect repellents and wear
Jim Becker
repellent when you are outdoors. Use products with active ingredients that are
