The City is About to Give Away 23 Acres of Potential Park Land
f you care about preserving prime city land for park space, then you will want to
pay attention to what is coming before the commission. We are voting on an
Iunsolicited proposal to build a concert venue on city land on 3.5 acres in downtown
Fort Lauderdale. The approximately $30 million piece of land could be an active park
for all residents and the park bond you voted on could pay for the park.

On August 18th, some commissioners suddenly changed their mind. Now they are
considering giving our 20-acre park to Inter Miami to expand their sports operations.

City Hall, 8th Floor I support what our residents are demanding, based on numerous community meetings,

agreement the commission unanimously supported and voted on from the beginning.
This proposed park was funded 100% by Inter Miami as part of the Public Private
Partnership (P3) regulated by state statute that says a P3 needs a public purpose. I also
support issuing a Request For Proposals to solicit the best partner for an Esports arena
located on the second floor of the community center that will have thriving youth Esports
leagues for our kids. All of this is about to vanish if the commission votes to give the rest
of the land to Inter Miami to expand their sports complex and parking. The public will
have no access to this land and we will receive no revenue from this land – your land.
