President's Message

                            Lake Estates Improvement Association, Inc.

“I'll have a blue Christmas without you.” – Elvis

                                        Dear Neighbors,

any of you met my mother
                                                 Sara at our homeowner
M meetings and events. The first
Christmas after her passing was very
hard. I had cooked a turkey with plenty
of leftovers and so in her memory, our
family formed a new holiday tradition
that I would like to share in the event
you would like to replicate it for the
homeless during the holidays. We save
Amazon boxes and line them with
colorful tissue and a place a homemade
meal in them. Last year, we added
            Linda W. Bird, President
men's belts. This year, we will add
                  Lakes Estates
Improvement Association, Inc. gently used golf shirts. Before Christmas
Eve service at our church, we pile the
family into the car in search of homeless
on the exits of I 95 or on our streets and
hand them a box out PG the window and
wish them a Merry Christmas. The smiles
on their faces reflected the true meaning
of Christmas and meant more to us than
                                        they would know.
As this year ends and the New Year begins, I hope that you can take a few
moments to be with us for an annual tradition, "Light Up the Lakes." The first year
we initiated it as a project, we followed in the tradition from Mexico. The candles in
the bags lined all the streets of Lake Estates by neighbors who purchased them from
our Association and the proceeds were donated to Kids In Distress. A local
television news crew featured it on their 6:00 PM broadcast. The second year, the
proceeds went to Family Central, offering assistance to children at child care centers
county wide. For many years, the tradition continued with the help of Bird Realty,
Inc. who donated and distributed the candles and bags to each house.
Later, the Association scaled the project down to just lining Northeast 57th Court
with the luminarias candles and we added the Annual Dinner Meeting. As we
celebrate thirty four years of successful collaborations to protect the property values
of our neighborhood, please join us again this year.
                                        Happy Holidays,

                                        Linda Bird, President
Improvement Association of Lake Estates, Inc.
