LHIA President’s Message

                                         Congratulations to graduating Seniors!

s summer approaches and the traffic eases, I have some preliminary good
news to share. As you may remember at our 2018 annual meeting, the
ACounty was working on a bypass road and showed us maps using SE 20th
Street and 22nd Street with one-way roads. Many thought it a ridiculous plan that
would only congest US 1 further with an additional light. The plan also greatly
impacted those living near Publix at Village East Condos with the thru street running
                                         next to their building.

                                         BYPASS ROAD & CONVENTION CENTER
Barbara Magill I just received an announcement that the traffic people at Broward County have
President, come up with a new plan that allows the old 2007 cut-thru of the Port to be
reinstated. I won’t learn exact details until the May 17th Street Task Force Meeting,
            Lauderdale Harbors
but it seems they will relocate the State Road 84 (Spangler Drive) checkpoint to the
         Improvement Association
south. The new bypass road will allow drivers coming North on US 1 to enter at
TEAM LHIA Spangler and drive east straight thru to Eisenhower Blvd, then north to the
Officers Convention Center or 17th Street. This will hopefully reduce congestion on 17th
Vice-President Street from US 1 to Eisenhower and also save money, as an elevated road over 84
Ed Rebholz is no longer needed.
                 Secretary
Chelsea Krebs Of course, with that reduction in traffic, it clears a hurdle for the County to expand
the Convention Center and add their long awaited 30-ish story building & some
                 Treasurer
Bonnie Rogers 800 hotel rooms. (hotel size changes with each rendering over the years).
On the bright side, in a few years - between the Convention Center and Pier 66 -
Welcome Committee we will have lots of new waterfront restaurants and public promenades to enjoy just
Chairman over a mile from our neighborhood. Combine that with our proximity to the beach,
Linda Brand shopping, air and cruise ports, and the downtown urban area, we should maintain
or increase our property values well into the future.

CONDOLENCES TO BOTH FAMILIES AND FRIENDS

Sadly, we lost two residents of Lauderdale Harbors in April. Mr. Guillermo
Woodward, a man that loved the sea, he had a vacation home here for the past
seven years. Also, Mr. Randolph Adams who has lived in Lauderdale Harbors for
decades. He served on the LHIA board in 2005-2006. In retirement he created
beautiful stained glass and spent numerous hours in his workshop fixing things. He
and his wife Sarah just sold their Lauderdale Harbors home last month.

                                         VACATION RENTALS

House bill 987 is proposed to give more rights to vacation rentals owners. The bill
would abolish the requirement for a vacation rental to provide parking. The Senate
and House bills on this subject are clearly defined by different parts of the State.
Vacation areas such as Miami, Fort Lauderdale and Orlando are pushing for more
