News Updates & Events continued
Many a ‘First Date’ took place at the Quarterdeck, as well as
many a chance ‘first meeting’ that led to romance or
friendship. And for more than 100 Quarterdeck employees
over the years, working at the Quarterdeck was their very
first job.
“I can’t tell you how many people have told me that they met
their spouse at the Quarterdeck or that we have sponsored
their class reunions. 50 years is a long time. We now hire
some high school students whose parents worked at the
Quarterdeck location when they were young,” says Flanigan.
“Since I first opened the doors of the very first location in the
80's, I knew we had created something special, something
uniquely South Florida. We look forward to its future, which
includes plans for expansion and redevelopment.”
That expansion and redevelopment vision will open in early
May in a newly-built Quarterdeck featuring a second-floor
terrace, a center courtyard and an adjacent separate sidebar
named Whisky Neat slated to open later this year. The new
location retains much of the old Quarterdeck flavor, including
booths and decorations from the old QD, and hundreds of
photos and taxidermy fish displayed creatively throughout the
new location.
The Quarterdeck been a staple of our neighborhood
community for 53 years on 17th Street and in Rio Vista! As
the QD says on its website: “That’s a real good thing.” And
we wish them many more years of success in the NEW
Quarterdeck! RV
