Vice Mayor’s Message
Neighbors,
reetings! What a great year we have had so far in District IV and the
City of Fort Lauderdale. On March 15th the City Commission and
Gthe Sustainability Advisory boards tackled Climate Change, Property
Insurance and Mortgages together to improve quality of life for all neighbors in
the City of Fort Lauderdale. This joint workshop included topics such as elevating
seawalls, encouraging development that prepares for sea level rise and investing
in storm water mitigation projects. Together we can improve our City and make it
even better. Here are some other updates:
Agreement for Wastewater Collection
Ben Sorensen The Downtown Collection System Project was approved by the City Commission.
District 4 Commissioner This $3,100,150 agreement with Murphy Pipeline Contractors LLC replaces
City of Fort Lauderdale approximately 2120 linear feet of existing sewer pipes in the East Las Olas

neighborhood which will aid in the City’s Comprehensive Utility Strategic Master
Plan by using larger sewer pipes to accommodate projected future flows to
improve sewer pipes. The City is excited to for these improvements and is pleased
to announce that construction will begin in the summer.
One Stop FTL
Colliers international made a presentation summarizing a financial analysis of
the proposal for One Stop FTL and the City Commission voted to enter into the
agreement. Arts Park will be a cultural center and arts park. The design is mostly
open space, including gardens and shade structures. The space will be a new
City Hall, 8th Floor urban designed for all to enjoy the public space.
