KELLYS LANDING
ellys Landing started in 1987 with the best New England Seafood in South Florida.
Along with a third colleague, business and life partners Debbie Skinner and Matt
K Ciccolo took over the restaurant in 2007, 14 years after Skinner walked through
its doors asking if a hostess position was available. She worked her way from hostess to
server, and occasionally subbed in as line cook.
“I had no idea I’d eventually take over the restaurant, but all my background helped get
me in the position that I’m in now,” said Debbie.
Since then, Kelly’s has become a landmark for great seafood in South Florida, serving the
best New England and local seafood in town. They also have a variety of desserts
prepared fresh daily, along with local and international beers on tap.
If it tastes like New England at Kelly’s Landing, it makes perfect sense. Twice a week, the
Debbie Skinner and restaurant receives ingredients directly from Ipswich, Massachusetts. Popular menu items
Matt Ciccolo are the lobster roll, and fish and chips. But it’s no surprise that the most in-demand item is
the lobster, arriving fresh every day to the restaurant. Especially on Tuesdays. The “Two for Tuesday” special features two
one-pound lobsters for $25 and a two-pound version for $30. Ciccolo says nearly 400 pounds of lobsters are sold that
day alone.
If you listen hard enough, you can hear Debbie’s strong New England “accent.” It all makes sense, if not for one thing:
She’s not from New England. Skinner has lived in Fort Lauderdale her entire life, born in Broward General Medical Center.
“Debbie constantly gets asked, ‘Where in New England are you from?’” laughs Matt, a New England native. They've
been sponsors of RIO VISTA since 2008.
