License Plate Reader Update
Late in the 4th quarter, we bought and installed a License
Plate Reader Camera on our southern entry in Lauderdale
Harbors (15th Street and Cordova Road). These cameras
can read 4,000 license readers per minute and record
the license number and a picture of the car. The plate
and car information is sent to a database in the cloud.
Each plate number is compared to a list of suspects. This
list is compiled by local Police departments, State Police
Departments, the FBI and others. When there is a match,
that originating entity is notified.
In the last six months, 15,752 matches were made,
including 13 stolen vehicles, 102 Sex Offenders, 153
stolen licenses, 2,144 expired licenses, 5,676 expired
tags, and 7,482 suspended/revoked/canceled drivers
licenses.
These numbers seem alarming, but in reality, the numbers
of thefts and vandalism have decreased. Our next security
is to install a crossing gate on 13th Street.
