RVCA President’s Message
Board Activities
The Cordova seawall painting has been completed. For those of you who live on
Cordova and may be building a dock, I have the details of the finishes used in
case you need to do any touch up.
We also completed the landscaping on the SE 9th Ave one-way block at SE 12th
Street. See Fred Stresau’s update following on pg. 16 for additional details.
We have room for additional board members or committee members. Please let me
know via email at president@riovistaonline.com if you are interested.
General Meeting
Our next General Meeting is scheduled for October 3rd at 7:30 at the Rio Vista
Church. We are meeting in the new section of the church, just west of the entrance
to the sanctuary.
RVCA Engaging Residents
We continue to look for ways to get our neighbors more involved in the
neighborhood. Our first couple 'Movies in the Park' were a big hit, attracting a
larger than expected crowd. A big thank-you to Ryan Lehrer and Evan Jaxtheimer for
putting this together. Our million orchids project has generated interest from 70
neighbors who want to participate and many of them came out for the first planting
event! See the update from Lor Sterling on pg. 14 for more details. As we move into
the height of Hurricane season, please be sure your preparations and emergency
plans are complete. For information on hurricane and emergency preparedness, see
www.fortlauderdale.gov/hurricane or www.broward.org/hurricane.
Green Your Routine (GYR)
A big thank-you to Celeste Koster for spearheading our GYR efforts in the
neighborhood and to the volunteers who participated in our cleanup days. She has
filed a grant application with the city for several hundred dollars in recognition of
our efforts. Unfortunately, Celeste can no longer lead this effort. If you would like to
get more involved and help organize cleanups and the like, please email me at
president@riovistaonline.com.
Transportation and Traffic Headaches
As long as the complaints keep coming in about underage and reckless golf
cart use RVCA will continue to seek enforcement from FLPD and attempt to
educate residents on the concerns of improper use. We continue to work with the
department of Transportation & Mobility on a variety of traffic issues that impact
the neighborhood. The key items include: Radar sign at SE 7th St and SE 11th
Ave.; finding some way to discourage wrong way drivers on SE 9th Ave at SE 12th
St.; and completion of various sidewalk installations. Further details can be found in
their monthly reports which are posted on our website at: www.riovistaonline.com/
city-county-info/transportation-and-mobility-status-reports ...or just look under the
City/County Info tab on our home page.
