President’s Message
Spring is here and with that
a new Board year!
ith the Annual Board Meeting behind us, I would like to welcome
Robin Jones, Sandra Tagliamonte, and Triana Nania to the Board.
WThank you, Shahina Siddiqi, Helen Bennett, and Ronnie Dennis, who
will be stepping down from the Board. Ronnie will still be involved as our Flag
committee chair, making sure our Landings flags are well maintained. We very
much appreciate all your years of service to the community!
This year’s annual meeting was held at our home. The format was pretty much the
same as the last time we hosted, and we hope everyone enjoyed it. We allotted
an hour for mingling prior to the official meeting, and we kept a thorough and
structured agenda. Kicking off with the Pledge of Allegiance, we set the tone of
professionalism and respect for our nation and political system.
The social committee, with Anne Maschmeyer at the helm, did an incredible job
coordinating all the food and drinks. We had a special surprise drawing as well.
A shout out to Michael Tronn, owner of TIMBR Restaurant on Las Olas, who gave
away 2 dinners. Our lucky recipients were Susan Becker and Jane Cucchiara.
Congratulations!
From State Representative LaMarca’s office, Kiara Coleman started off our guest
speaking list. The city and county officials present and speaking were Broward
County Commissioner Lamar Fisher, Fort Lauderdale Mayor Dean Trantalis, and
Acting City Manager Susan Grant. In addition, we had two of our representatives
from FLPD, Officers Herring and Rodriguez. The City’s code compliance office was
represented by Ed Eason, who came in place of Code officer ShayQwan Kendrick.
In total, we had about 70+ attendees. Since no one from Commissioner Herbst’
office was present, we had Tom Brinkley, our Parks and Recreations Chairperson,
give us an update of progress and frustrations in the Landings as it comes to our
work and interactions with the city and county. In hindsight, his presentation should
have been first, when we had the attention of the dignitaries.
It was a fabulous opportunity to get better acquainted with neighbors, elected
officials, police, and code enforcement as we work closely with them on matters
that involve the Landings. I feel that the turnout by our residents shows our
dedication to the community and set us apart as one of the city’s most engaged
and attractive neighborhoods!
We are still working with the City’s Parks and Recreation Department on the
improvements to our entries, medians and monuments. We have no set date yet as
to when the next phases will be underway.
