LRA Update
Orchids for
The Landings!
Landings Neighbors Join Together to
Support Fort Lauderdale Cares Day
The Landings Residential Association (LRA) showed its support for “Fort Lauderdale
Cares Day” on Saturday, April 25, 2025. This annual event, sponsored by the City of
Fort Lauderdale, promotes community engagement and volunteerism while supporting
projects like cleanups, beautification and more.
Led by our LRA president Helena Cooper and her husband Scott, board members and
volunteers gathered and installed more than 30 orchid plants on trees along Bayview
Drive from NE 55th Street to NE 55th Place. Installation included zip-tying orchids to
trees, watering the plants and forming a plan to provide regular watering maintenance
while we wait for the plant roots to attach to the trees.
The project was rewarding. In addition to beautifying Bayview Drive, the orchid project
brought our community together. Neighbors stopped by as the plants were being
installed to say hello and express their appreciation for the project. Others stopped by
to join in and help with watering and clean up. A great time was had by all!
We are hopeful that the orchids will take off and provide permanent beauty along
Bayview Drive. If so, the LRA is committed to installing additional orchid plants in the
future. We are also looking for donations of Spanish moss to add to the plants this fall. If
anyone in the community wants to assist in this project by donating plants and installing
orchids yourself, please reach out to Anne Maschmeyer at annemasch@yahoo.com.
