President’s Message
Greetings,
I
hope you are all enjoying the start of summer! The winter season in the Landings
was eventful and engaging, with several curbside cocktail events hosted by
various neighbors each month. We extend our gratitude to everyone who hosted
and participated in these events. It has been delightful to reconnect with familiar
faces and make new acquaintances within our community. Special thanks go to
Anne Maschmeyer, our social committee chairperson, for her exceptional planning
and coordination of these events.
We are also finding new ways to connect as neighbors. During the Fort Lauderdale
Cares initiative, The Landings beautified our city by installing orchids on trees
in the Bayview medians, from the south flagpole to 55th place. We bought the
orchids from local grower Gale at Mickeys Orchids, who also advised us on
their care. The late April event was a success, and I thank all the residents who
participated. Until the orchids are established, residents take turns watering them.
If successful, we will expand this project to the rest of Bayview and 55th Street.
Other Landings Updates include:
1) The electronic speed sign at NE 55th Street Bridge has been replaced.
2) The city and county have approved the replacement of the yellow speed limit
signs on 55th Street, in the area as you approach the hump bridge, to read “15
MPH” (not 20 MPH). This is to be consistent with the existing 15 MPH signs at
the south Bayview Drive Bridge.
3) Parks and Recreation have been making repairs and upgrades to the median
and entry irrigation systems.
4) All LPR Cameras are operational, and discussions are continuing with the city as
to the long-term operation.
5) We have requested the city re-paint the bike and pedestrian path / lanes and
are awaiting confirmation as to when this will be done.
For those of you that like to put items out for bulk item pick up, please note that the
pickup is the 4th Friday of the month. This often becomes an issue when there are
five Fridays in a month. This happened in May this year and happens again in
August and October 2025. Remember that the bulk pick-up in August will be on
August 22nd, and in October on October 24th.
Hurricane season began on June 1st, with forecasts predicting above-average
tropical storms and hurricanes impacting the U.S. We have all seen the kinds of
devastation that can occur. Take all warnings seriously by securing loose items
and furniture. Airborne objects like flowerpots, garbage, and garden furniture can
cause significant damage.
Please be safe and have a happy summer! Let us hope we’ll be spared from
hurricane season!
