Flowers & Found Objects. This year
includes a guided holiday lights tour
with Water Taxi, rounding out the
tropical holiday experience.
Volunteers help from beginning to end,
moving furniture, placing items on
display and post-holiday clean-up. It’s
an interesting experience. Touching the
items offers a different appreciation for
them. People who have passion, but no
formal training, get to learn things like
using gloves for fine work or how the
items in the collection work together to
tell a story. “You don’t get that in your
normal life - in museums you’re always
told not to touch,” Kirk states.
Looking into the New Year, Kirk is
excited for the future. 2018 was
challenging, faced with unexpected
hurricanes, the trauma from Parkland and
other community needs, affected where
people can give and support. “We made
it and we’re happy about 2019.”
The Holiday Hangover in January is
becoming more popular each year.
April and team like to say “it’s the first
and best of the year.” It’s a sell-out
crowd of 300, featuring 12 local
restaurants for tastings, live music and
a casual party while the house is still
decorated. It’s one last chance to hold
onto the holidays or catch up with your
friends after traveling for family.
“We’re really lucky when we host
fundraisers, because we have such an
incredible venue. Our parties are
relaxed and comfortable; members and
guests get to experience the house in
different ways, every season.” The
museum is available for private events,
like weddings or corporate parties and
offers a gift shop with traditional
handicrafts, jewelry, vintage prints,
postcards and housewares from Florida.
Stranahan House Victorian Christmas
runs December 16th-23rd, with holiday
lights tour provided by Water Taxi. Call
