Getting to the Beach for Events!
By Karen Warfel, Transportation Planning Program Manager, City of Fort Lauderdale
he season of amazing events on the beach has started but with it comes the decision of how to get to those events. One
benefit of living in Fort Lauderdale is that the beach is so close to downtown and many neighborhoods. Because of this
Teasy access, it opens up the possibilities of getting to events beyond just a car.
The City’s Transportation and Mobility Department is promoting two rejuvenated options this year with the Free Bike Valet and
the Free LauderGo! community bus service. Both are easy and convenient options and provide an alternative to taking a vehicle.
But we also are very proud of our Las Olas Garage with supportive Seabreeze Tram for those who prefer driving.
The free Bike Valet service has been provided over past years for major events at the beach but not in the past few years.
The City sponsored service was launched again this year at the Fort Lauderdale Air Show to a great success. The service will
continue to be offered for the Great American Beach Party on May 28th and July 4th Festivities this year located on Las Olas
Boulevard between the Intracoastal Bridge and Seabreeze Boulevard. The fenced area is manned by staff throughout the event
to watch over your bicycle. Bring your own lock to secure it to the marathon racks and you will receive a check ticket. The
location is convenient to both events happening on the beach.
This service has also been provided by private events like the Tortuga Music Festival with the location conveniently located at
the ticket office at D.C. Alexander Park and the city sponsored service at the Fort Lauderdale Air Show recently with the parking
location at the corner of Sunrise Boulevard and SRA1A with some of the best parking available for the event.
Don’t have a bike, that is OK, the City also offers a free community bus service from downtown to the beach through two
routes. What was once the Sun Trolley has now been rebranded as LauderGo! It is now funded by your Broward County Penny
for Transportation. The two routes include the Beach Link (Daily, 10:30AM to 5:00PM) and Las Olas Link (Friday to Sunday,
12:45PM to 5:00PM).
The Las Olas Link connects the Brightline Station east along Las Olas to the beach and north to Vistamar Street, while the Beach
Link connects Broward General along SE 17th Street to the beach north to the Galleria Mall. Visit www.fortlauderdale.gov/
laudergo or download the LauderGo! App from your app store for more information and live tracking.
Prefer to drive? The Transportation and Mobility Department also manages the great parking facility of the Las Olas Garage.
There are five levels of parking in the facility just blocks from the event. If you park at the garage, you can take advantage of the
free Seabreeze Shuttle to bring you from the garage to the beach between Las Olas Oceanside Park and Cortez Street.
No matter how you want to get to the beach, there is a great alternative for you.
